CBD has been gaining popularity over the last few years thanks to some of the wonderful benefits it’s providing for people.
If you’re one the 442 million people around the world suffering from diabetes type 1 or type 2 then you might be wondering if CBD could help you as well.
Well the truth is that diabetes is both a diet and genetic disorder and there’s no evidence right now that CBD can cure diabetes.
For type 2 diabetics the best thing you can do is reduce your carb intake and eat healthy.
For type 1 diabetics whose pancreas isn’t providing enough insulin the best thing you can do to manage your diabetes is to eat less carbs, exercise and eat healthy as well.
Unfortunately CBD won’t be able to get your pancreas working again. 🙂
Having said that, there was one interesting study in 2016 where researchers gave T1D mice CBD and found that it helped reduce inflammation in the pancreas.
This may mean that CBD is able to delay the onset of T1D and preserve the remaining insulin producing cells for a little while longer.
But just because CBD may not be able to cure diabetes that doesn’t mean you won’t get any benefits from it if you’re diabetics!
How CBD Can Benefit Diabetics
If you’re reading this now and you or someone you know has diabetes then you’ll know that there are tons of side-effects that come with it.
Diabetics, especially type 1’s have to battle:
- Weight gain
- Headaches and migraines
- Sore feet
And all kinds of other problems that come with having out of whack blood sugars.
The worst part is that all these symptoms can cause a lot of stress which can send your blood sugars on a roller coaster!
And this is where CBD may be able to help.
CBD is a cannabinoid that comes from hemp which means it contains very little to no THC so it’s not psychoactive and won’t get you high. Sorry hippies.
Your body has what’s called an Endocannabinoid system which contains the cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2.
Your body literally has an entire system setup to process and use cannabinoids like CBD! Coincidence? I think not. 🙂
Anyway, CBD activates these receptors providing anti-inflammatory benefits to your entire body!
CBD can help:
- Relieve anxiety.
- Increase serotonin to combat depression.
- Soothe aches and pains.
- Reduce stress.
- Prevent headaches.
- Help you sleep better.

How To Use CBD To Help With Diabetes
I wrote an article here about finding the right dose when using CBD, here’s a summary:
- Start off with 20mg per day for a week.
- Then increase your dose by 5mg per day every 3-4 days until you get the desired effect.
- Keep a diary and write down how much CBD you took and how you felt that day after taking it!
There’s lots of ways to consume CBD including vaping, oils, pills, creams and gummies.
For diabetics I would recommend avoiding the gummies as they often contain lots of sugar!
So CBD may not be able to get rid of your diabetes but it can definitely help alleviate some of the symptoms that come with it!
